2nds Go Top After Downing Dots

The CPCC 2nd Grade side has moved into outright First place after defeating Mona Vale Dots in a top of the table clash at Passmore. The win continues the team’s undefeated start to the season.

The round 5 match saw the return of regular 2nd Grade captain Tom Carden from an extended holiday. He immediately ruined stand in skipper Brodie Elliott’s perfect start to the season in terms of toss results by losing and being told to bowl first.

This decision turned out the be fruitful for the Plateau, as their trademark tight bowling restricted the Mona batsman early. Harry Dunn cashed in from the double Dunn opening combination with 3 wickets. At the 18 over drinks break the Dots were struggling at 5/43.

Some late hitting and a bit of sloppiness in the field from CPCC allowed the Dots to scramble to 9/123 at the conclusion of the 35 over innings.

Scores over 20 from 4 of the top 5 CPCC batsman, including Horstead, Moorthi, R Dunn and Carden, meant that the Plateau were cruising in their chase at 3/111 with 5 overs to go. From here there were some late innings jitters – CPCC made it hard for themselves by losing 5/9 before they limped home with 2 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
