4ths into Grand Final, 5ths Lose a Close One

After being absent last season, CPCC will once again feature on grand final weekend after 4th Grade’s commanding victory over Harbord.

Plateau won the toss and elected to bat at Terrey Hills. 4ths openers Toby Horstead (66) and James Humberstone (50) executed the perfect by putting on a stand of 120 before the first wicket fell. From here 4ths powered passed 200 before declaring at 8/204. By the end of day 1 the match was heavily swayed in the Plateau’s favour after 2 Harbord wickets fell before the close of play.

Harbord’s innings never really got going on Sunday and they were eventually bowled out for 131 (Matt Moore 4/15 off 133 and Blake Conde 4 catches and a stumping). The 73 run win was massive, especially considering Harbord finished 17 points clear of CPCC on the ladder.

4th Grade will attempt to complete their fairy tale run when they take on Manly Leagues this weekend at Nolans 2 in the Grand Final.

Over at Lionel Watts, 5th Grade had an unfortunate loss. Spirits were high after CPCC sent Wakehurst in and subsequently rolled them for 86 (Nick Lee 4/33 off 11, Sam Debien 3/17 off 7). But our Development Team quickly found themselves in trouble, collapsing to 7/36 by the end of day 1. Unfortunately, the lower order couldn’t quite rally enough runs and they were bowled out for 64.
