Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club The biggest park cricket club on Sydney's Northern Beaches
Peter Mizza made a cracking debut for CPCC last Saturday in 2nds clash against Harbord. Up at Plateau Park, 2nds were confronted with a strong Harbord side that boasted plenty of “1st Grade” flavour. They won the toss and sent the Plateau in. Pete saved the innings from complete collapse, scoring 31 at number 5 as we faltered to a total of 100. Things were looking bleak for the Plateau as both opening bowlers failed to take wickets, despite some tight bowling. Enter second change bowlers Col Huxley and Pete Mizza, who took 3/38 off 9 and 3/7 off 5 respectively to have Harbord 6/82 at stumps. Pete’s effort was enough to secure him player of the day back at the Builders. Tragically, Pete’s now going in for a shoulder reconstruction, but we’d love to see him have another crack in Plateau colours if recovered later in the season!
First Grade also had a tough day at the office. CPCC won the toss and elected to bat against a strong Long Reef side at Griffith Park. Early wickets fell, with Tom Carden looking to steady things before being unfortunately run out for 37. Sam Steindl again took it to the bowling attack coming in at 7. He smacked a quick 48, displaying some impressive hitting for the second game in a row. That was bout it for 1sts who were bowled out for 142. With the bowl we were unable to make in-roads. Nick Bonner claimed a late wicket to have Longy 1/109 at stumps. Big job ahead for 1sts this Saturday to get back into the game.
3rds Gold didn’t fair a whole lot better. Harbord put on 254 against them at Harbord park despite some strong bowling performances. Ben Blackshaw took 4/23 off 7.1 and reigning Shearer winning Pat Koch took 3/37 off 11. They’ll be look for a big effort to chase down those runs this week.
After being forced to move from St Matthews farm to Millers, 3rds Blue are in with a shot, bowling first and getting Cromer out for about 180. They’re 0/30 odd in reply. They’ll be keen to pull off a good chase for the second game in a row.
The Development team are a third Plateau side facing a tough chase, Dee Why RSL put on about 220 at Beverly Job.
It was a strong showing from 1sts, 2nds, 3rds Blue and the Dev Team at the Builders after the day’s play. $50 of free food was enjoyed by all thanks to the trivia team’s efforts earlier in the week, where they claimed a commanding 10 point win over their closest rivals (mostly thanks to the help of the Brick’s parents!).
