Seniors Round 2: 1sts Score first Win

It wasn’t a day as successful as last Saturday with our lower grades all going down, however, 1st Grade kept their unbeaten start going after recording their first win of the season.

1st Grade

The toss was won by Wakehurst Green who elected to bat. They started confidently, however after the Plateau managed to grab a couple of wickets through openers Richards and Gallo, the wheels started to fall off. Wickets continued to fall consistently through the Wakehurst innings with all bowlers picking up at least 1. Harry Dunn finished with the impressive figures of 3/12 off 7 in his return to pace bowling. Fielding was a highlight for CPCC, with plenty of challenging catches being taken, including a trade mark screamer from Rob Minnett jumping high to parry the ball down one handed and complete the catch. Rob and Cameron Gallo both clinched bonus Shearers by taking 3 catches.

Scoring wasn’t easy at Lionel Watts. Plateau lost a couple early before Minnett and Fitzpatrick (26) combined to bring the score to 2/76. Whilst a few more wickets fell, Minnett paddled the ship home confidently and finished unbeaten on 63 when the Plateau, 6 down, reached the Wakehurst total in the final over. Rob’s tally for the season after 2 games is at 115 runs without yet getting out.

3rd Grade

3rds found themselves up against a particularly strong Wakehurst side at Plateau Park. Captain Huxley sent Wakehurst in which triggered a Wakehurst onslaught with both openers scoring 70. The runs continued to flow as Wakehurst brought their total to 5/248 at the innings close. Adam Morrison was the pick of the bowlers with 2/28 off his 7. CPCC then counter punched with strong attacking batting from debutante Adrian Brault (51), Corey Calvert (65) and Adam Sheppard (27) but it was only enough to prevent a bonus point, with the Plateau finishing their 35 overs at 8/198.

4th Grade

In an off week for 4ths they found themselves in a lot of trouble against Cromer at Griffith Park. They were bundled out for 71 – a late, quick 25 from Ganesh Raj saved further damage. Raj’s good day continued as he took 2/10 off 7 in the Cromer innings, unfortunately those wickets and a run out were the only wickets to fall as Cromer cruised to the total. It did take them more than 29 overs however, which meant the bonus point was saved.

5th Grade

5ths won the toss and batted first at Lake Park. They scored a competitive 8/128 off their 30, junior Luke McGuire top scored with 42 not out, while there were a few other contributions from Norris Waters (24), Jim DeBressac (21) and Andrew Cameron (25). Cromer then passed the Plateau total 5 down after 25 overs. Luke McGuire capped off his day with 3/26 off 5 and Andrew Davis took 2/11 off 5.
