Another Easy Win for T20 Towers

In a much anticipated game of T20, Collaroy Plateau Towers came up against a rather young Saint Augustine’s “Old Boys” team in our clash at Nolans 4.

I started my captaincy career with a loss in the coin flip. Being sent out to bowl first we thought, on this blue sky and very windy day, we may be chasing some leather… I’ve never been so wrong, with our outfit putting in a very strong all round performance. James “Pricey” Price opened with the wind and the Saint Augustine’s captain charged the first ball of the day and missed. It was then we realised that today could in fact be a quick day and that it was a horrible toss to lose.

Pricey was unlucky with a few top edges going for 4’s, he conceded 0-12 off his 2 overs. Nick “Army Army” Armstrong opened into the wind from the other end and the curse of drop catches off his bowling was broken with Sam “Nigel” Steindl taking a 1 handed screamer at first slip. Harry “Faf” Dunn bowled way too well for the shaken batting lineup and he claimed 3-6 off his 2 overs, including yet another caught Dunn bowled Dunn. Now knowing that we wouldn’t be chasing much, Nick “Ducky” Bonner was brought onto bowl.. But not the pace he is so well known for. He bowled leggies. Yes leggies… First ball of Ducky’s spell saw middle stump knocked out of the ground, 2nd ball was dropped, 3rd was caught by Pricey. The umbrella field, made famous in park cricket by Mick Pawley, was set into play most of the innings and for the first time ever it had a high success rate. Saints were bowled out for 53 after Nigel removed the poor number 11’s middle stump.

Ellen and Alex Perry opened the batting. The Saints weren’t giving up without a bit of a fight: the 2 opening bowlers had some heat and a good line which saw B Elliott (Ellen) bowled in the 3rd over for 10. I then joined Perry in the middle only to hit the ball straight back at the bowler for 1. Perry had a hot date at 6pm meaning he had to leave at 4:45, leaving Sam and Bonner to bring the game home by 7 wickets even after Sam tried to run Bonner out at least 3 times, at one stage almost over lapping him and then calling him through for yet another run, just to send him back when they both met at the bowler’s end.
