The list of successful CPCC alumni has grown overnight with the triumph of Matt Barton in his first round tennis match at the prestigious Wimbledon tournament.
Matt played juniors for the Plateau at a young age. The below photo is from the 2000/01 annual report. That season he played in our under Under 9 ‘Electrodes’ team, alongside Manly 1st Grade bowler Nick McLachlan, and managed to win the batting award and take the most catches.
The Wimbledon match was his first match in a Grand Slam. The game against Albano Olivetti went the distance and then some, with Matt claiming a mammoth 5th set 14-12 in the match’s 3rd day, after which he fell to the ground with exhaustion and delight. He’ll now face American John Isner in his 2nd round match.
Congratulations and good luck Matt!
Matt Barton def Albano Olivetti 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-7, 14-12
