The ever improving Plateau Ogres (or “Orges” according to MyCricket) T20 side pulled up just 3 runs short of victory last Sunday (29th November). Recruit Nirav Patel smacked a 60 in a 100 run opening partnership with Brad Baber, but they were unable to get the Ogres over the line.
Captain Kim Blacker issued the following statement on the Ogres’ Facebook group:
Well the Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club Ogres finally kicked off their season last Sunday and in true fashion snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory losing by a lousy 2 runs. Congratulations to Brad Baber and Nirav Patel for a record 100 run opening partnership – there have been seasons where we struggled to score this many runs!
To fund our social activities and in an attempt to improve team performances the Ogres Fines system has been introduced and this week’s recipients were:
Neale $5 – Dropped catch.
$10 – 2 missed stumpings.
Dave R $5 – Dropped catch.
$10 – Dropped catch. Stopping a 4 brilliantly…off our own batsman while umpiring at square leg.
Nigel $5 – For the best leave in the last over ever.
$10 – For having a 6 hit off him and trying to hit a 6 on his second ball….unsuccessfully
Skills $5 – For drinking during the game and not offering one to the rest of the team.
Dom $5 – For playing an exhibition game instead of for the Ogres
Brad $5 – Dropped catch.
Nirav $5 – Having a 6 hit off him.
Matt W $5. For wasting the last ball by hitting only a 4 and not the required 6. Careless.
Mick $5 – For taking his wife for dinner at the Timo rather than playing for the Ogres.
All the best to the Ogres in their next match against Belrose Red at Nolans 4 this Sunday (13th December).
